Vitamin Nutrition Q&A

What is vitamin nutrition?

Vitamin nutrition, or vitamin infusion therapy, administers vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants intravenously.

When nutrients enter your bloodstream directly through an IV infusion, they bypass your digestive system, allowing your cells to absorb up to 90% of the beneficial properties. Whereas when you take supplements orally, you only absorb about 50%.

Vitamin nutrition is quick, painless, and doesn’t require any downtime. You can return to your normal routine immediately afterward.

What types of health problems can benefit from vitamin nutrition?

The Excellent Ultimate Medical Center team uses vitamin nutrition that may assist in minimizing various health problems, including:

  • Fatigue
  • Jetlag
  • Hangovers
  • Migraines
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic pain
  • Muscle spasms
  • Allergies
  • Sinus infections
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Cold and the flu
  • Gastrointestinal issues (e.g., nausea, diarrhea, vomiting)
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Nutritional deficiencies

Vitamin nutrition may help speed up recovery after a race or another type of athletic competition. Certain minerals and nutrients can reduce inflammation and speed up your body’s natural healing process.

What does vitamin nutrition involve?

At Excellent Ultimate Medical Center, vitamin nutrition takes 60-90 minutes.

Your provider reviews your medical records, asks about your symptoms, and may complete an exam. They then may order lab tests, including blood work and urinalysis, checking for vitamin and nutritional deficiencies or hormonal imbalances.

If the team determines that you can benefit from vitamin nutrition, they develop a personalized vitamin cocktail. The cocktail is a mixture of saline, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.

The vitamin cocktail is in an IV bag attached to a catheter and a needle. They insert the needle into a vein in your arm, and the vitamin solution slowly enters your bloodstream.

During vitamin nutrition, you sit back and relax for about an hour while the solution enters your body. When the IV bag is empty, your provider removes the needle and moves you to a recovery room. After about half an hour, you can go home.

Is vitamin nutrition safe?

Vitamin nutrition is safe and usually well-tolerated. After treatment, it’s normal to experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the needle insertion site, but any discomfort should improve within a day or two.

Your provider may ask you to take it easy for at least 24 hours, depending on the type of vitamin infusion you receive. Follow their instructions to reduce the risk of side effects, like nausea or diarrhea.
